Trophies and Awards as Motivators

We all liked to be acknowledged for our achievements and in many cases trophies and awards are the first choice. Although many men and women may shrug their shoulders at receiving recognition for their efforts, they do respect being acknowledged. What are the psychological results of being the recipient of an award? Does it change the person in any way? Of course it does. after all, we are human and Although some will deny it, we are affected by what others think of us. Take the youthful boy or girl who wins a Plaque and trophies in a sports system, for instance, baseball. The youthful person knows that they have been noticed by others for the way they played the game. Maybe they were the best hitter or most improved player. irrespective of what they did, they have been noticed for their efforts. An award sets them apart from the rest of the team. But more essentially, it motivates them to continue with their level of dedication to the sport. It shows them that others have watched their play and they were impressed with their level of achievement. Just as essential, other players on the team see that if they can improve their level of play they may also be acknowledged. And of course, the coaches are happy because everyone tries to improve their skills. What about grown ups and the impacts of winning awards and trophies? Most of us have been involved in some sort of group where awards are introduced on an annual basis and we know how happy men and women are when they get acknowledged for their achievements.
